Arthur Johnson - Coal Heaver

Arthur Johnson was born 1828 in Ireland. He enlisted on 30 April 1864 aboard the U.S.S. Minnesota as an ordinary seaman for a 2 2/3 year enlistment[1]. He was sent to the U.S.S. Tecumseh shortly afterwards with the rate of Coal Heaver.

On 1 August 1864, Johnson was admitted to Naval Hospital Pensacola with "Rheumatismus chronica" [3] and as a result he was not aboard the Tecumseh for the Battle of Mobile Bay.

He was discharged to duty on 5 August 1864 to the receiving ship U.S.S. Potomac. From there he was attached to the U.S.S. Hartford and then the U.S.S. Richmond [2].

Johnson was discharged from the Navy on 15 July 1865.[2]
