"Tecumseh Final Trial Trip"

The iron-clad battery Tecumseh made her final trial trip Monday, in New York Bay, and at five o'clock in the evening returned to the Navy Yard to delivered over to Admiral Spaulding for the service. A number of prominent naval officers were on board. Some English officers applied for permission to witness the experiments, but in the absence of authority from Washington the request was not complied with. The highest speed attained was over nine and a half knots an hour. The contract requires ten knots, which it is understood can be made. Her guns worked satisfactorily.
