Walter Powers - Seaman

Walter Powers was born circa 1843 in England and enlisted on 15 April 1864 at the Brooklyn, NY Naval Rendezvous as a Seaman for a 3 year enlistment[1]. He was former Army who was transferred to the Navy.

Powers was attached to the Tecumseh on 20 April 1864 with the rating of steward [2], [5]. He was reported lost with her during the Battle of Mobile Bay on 5 August 1864 as reported in Navy casualty lists.[3], [4].

He was approximately 21 years old and had been in the Navy for just over three months.
